Repair and rewinding

A guitar pickup that no longer shows signs of life doesn’t mean it’s screwed up. A bad contact, a worn solder can be the cause of an absence of sound.

By exposing the pickup, and by accessing the coil (s), the origin of the failure can be determined quite simply.

If the short circuit is inside the winding, rewinding is required.

Did you say “almost”? Some pickups are molded in epoxy. Unless there is a very superficial breakdown, they are very difficult to repair.
