Blade Runner – Doomfred signature – Blade Hi gain Humbucker

The Blade Runner is a Hi-Gain Blade Humbucker pickup set, developed in collaboration with Frédéric Patte-Brasseur, aka DoomFred, a well-known guitarist on the French and European metal scene that he has been playing for 20 years, also a luthier based in Mantes-la-Ville since 2019. As his artist name suggests, Fred is a Doom guitarist, and he plays in no less than 5 groups: Ataraxie, Conviction, Funeralium, Mourning Dawn and Stabwound. During the discussion phase before the first tests, we notably mentioned Black Sabbath and its emblematic guitarist Tony Iommi as well as Dave Murray of Iron Maiden, for the precision and clarity of his solos in the neck position. The bet was on: make a Hi-gain microphone, which could handle big distortions, both with the bridge pickup and the neck pickup, while maintaining precision and articulation.

A mic for Metal, all Metal, and a little more

We went with a blade type humbucker pickup, for the look, for the sound and for the undeniable advantage they offer:

• They can be installed on any type of guitar, regardless of the bridge and string spacing.
• There is never a loss of power or volume during the bends we love so much.
• The bridge pickup is equipped with a Ceramic 8 magnet which is thicker than standard size magnets. This brings power and treble to support a very muscular winding, full of body. The bass is powerful while remaining precise even with a very low tuning. Grain is simply devastating.
  The neck pickup also handles distortions without problem with less bass, precision in the treble and just enough midrange for solos that break through into the mix without any problem. This neck pickup has the particularity of being able to be installed both in the neck and in the bridge for a result that is slightly less powerful but full of personality.

  The microphone, manufactured and wound by hand in Normandy, is equipped with an open cover which protects the winding (the fragile and vital part) while respecting the sound of the microphone.
