Alnico 3 is composed of 12% aluminum, 25% nickel, and 3% copper, but no cobalt! It's the least powerful of all the grades, but it compensates for this lack of power with a strong character and exceptional musicality. pickups using this alloy are loaded with low-midrange frequencies, giving them that characteristic husky tone in overdrive and scooped upper midrange. The bass is slightly recessed, and the sustain is excellent thanks to its low magnetism. It's one of the best magnets for making PAF-style humbuckers. Gibson's Custom Bucker, Super 74, and MHS neck pickups use it. As for P90s, Dogear replicas for Les Paul Juniors and MHS P90s also use it. It's particularly well-suited for blues in all its forms, jazz, rock, funk, soul, and even hard rock with the right winding.
