Electric guitar pickups
Electric guitar pickups generate an electromagnetic field that is modified by the vibrations of the guitar strings. These disturbances are transformed by the pickup into an electrical current (a pickup is a miniature, very low-intensity current generator). The amplifier or sound card then converts this current into sound. Unlike a piezo pickup, an electric guitar pickup is not an acoustic sensor. It does not capture the acoustic sound of the guitar.
